Yes I am sure this question has been asked several times before but my recruiter won't get back to me and neither has any other recruiter I have applied to. I have my degree and criminal background check. I just want to know where I should send it (State or National) to have it apostilled and how many copies of each need to be apostilled? I live in the United States and I would really appreciate a response as I am feeling frustrated at the moment.

You only need 1 of each.

Send the original CBC (it should have a seal and signature on it) to the US Dept of State. It is an $8 fee for the apostille. you need to send paperwork and a SASE too.

Take the original degree to get a notarized copy (free at bank of america) and then take the notarized copy to your state's something office, mine was in Salem OR, where they charge for an apostille on the notarization.

I recommend getting two of each. You will then have a backup copy and there are many people who wish they had one.

The CBC will be good for 6 months since it was issued by the FBI.

Take your diploma to your bank and have them make a notarized copy of your diploma. Then have the notarized copy apostilled by your state. Google the name of your state + apostille to find out how. Send your FBI check directly to D.C. or let an apostille service like rushdocs.com handle it for you.
(Make sure the background check has the FBI's seal on it or you won't be able to get a federal apostille).

If pressed for time, use one of the services.
