Okay, in a bit of a pickle now. The job I am in is not working out so I am applying to other gigs. This means I will be breaking my contract and I doubt that I would get a letter of release from my current school.
Is it possible to break the E-2 contract and be hired as an E-1 with a new school (university)? I have an MA and am qualified for it. (as far as I know). Is it just as simple as giving notice at my old school, having the university sign the forms sponsoring me as an E-1 and then taking my paperwork to immigration to have it processed?
Any advice or information would be extremely helpful. |

I heard that you can apply for a D-10 visa (job seekers visa) and that then one time only, you get to change employer without kimmi insisting on a Letter of Release. |

I am pretty certain even for the D-10 he/she needs a Letter of Release. The only time a letter is not needed is if the person has been properly fired/let go and immigration notified. Or the person has an excuse from the Labour board saying the person has just cause to leave job.
Can he move from E-2 to E-1 in country I am pretty certain yes. Unless he gets that LOR he can not transfer. Even then immigration still might turn him down.
The OP is quitting and breaking the contract. If he gives proper notice, he can maybe get the letter of release, but it could go the complete other way. This has been discussed before. (will link later).
My advice to OP is quit properly. Try to be diplomatic with the school. Accept you are going to loose out a lot in the end. PLUS also start getting extra paperwork togther. If the LOR ends up a bust, then a visa trip to Japan can be done.
