My guys have final exams coming up soon and after that they have two weeks before school is out... I'm thinking trying to get anything out of them at this point is going to be impossible so it's game time. Anyone got any good suggestions on good games/slack off activites for the kids. I teach middle school boys. |

hey...
you probably aleady know this game, and it doesn't take much time, but its fun.
its called the telephone game.
you arrange the students (standing up) in lines.
you show the first student in each line a sentence, and that student must whisper the sentence into the ear of the next student in his line....and he whispers it to the next in his line.....etc. the last student in each line raises his hand once he has heard the repetition. the first team to repeat the sentence accurately back to you is the winner.
you can use your imagination to make up some unusual sentences about some of the students in the class.
another one that gets rave reviews for me is called 'kill the teacher'
you instruct each student to create a trivia question for you to answer. you must lay out some guidelines as to what kinds of questions they can ask. i always stipulate that they are not allowed to ask anything with korean content or computer game content. i also give them a time limit of 5minutes to create their questions.
one by one, the students ask their questions. if you answer correctly, you get the point for that question. if you can't answer, and another student CAN answer that question, the class gets the point for that question. after all the students have asked their questions, you tally up the points.
if the class has more points than you, they are allowed to 'kill the teacher'
killing the teacher in MY class means each student can have one paper ball on their desk to throw at you. my kids have never won yet, but i always try to make it close. |

Firing squad.
I play it either one of two ways.
Indoor a soft nerf style ball. line half on either side and they have to ask questions an improperly answered question results in a throw. The struck player is out.
Outdoor water balloons
It gets them to review and they love it. |

I should add that my classes are between 40-45 students and the classrooms are really small so my ability to move kids is limited. |

Hello, Crazy Lemon Girl!
I hope that the game page on my Website helps you:
http://eslideas.hypermart.net/games.html
Some of my classes have recently been going crazy over Jotto.
While you write the alphabet on the board, one student writes a 3-letter word and shows it to everyone but you.
Then you write down a 3-letter word on the board.
The class tells you how many letters that word has in common with the secret word, but does not tell you which letters.
Then you continue giving 3-letter words and recording the number of points you get for each word. The game continues until inductive reasoning tells you the 3 letters of the word.
For instance, suppose you get 1 point for MAN and 2 points for MEN.
That will tell you that the secret word has an E, does not have an A, and has an M or an N but not both. Try the word MET and you get 1 point.
That tells you that the word has an N but no T.
From this information, you can circle the E and the N and cross out the A, M, and T. That accounts for all the letters in your word, so now you can go to work finding the third letter.
Just to see if you get the idea, what is the secret word if you collect this data?
