Hi,

It's been my understanding that most public schools in Korea hire or start around February each year. Is that true? I'm wondering why there are job postings (like this one: http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/index.cgi?read=53976) that start in August or September for public schools.

Are these jobs where the teachers left early, perhaps, or is it normal for public schools to hire year round?

Thanks.

Used to be summer was epik's major intake time so many schools & teachers still operate on aug-aug contracts.

Where did you hear this? That is much too late. You need to get all the paperwork processed. February or August hiring would be a result of a teacher leaving at the last minute and the school needs a teacher. April and October are possible months to find a school a teacher may have left or not showed up at. This doesn't mean they are bad schools, but you should visit if you are in Korea before accepting.

Best time to apply for the Fall hiring session: January through March of the same year"

Awesome, thank you both for the good information. I have a job commitment from September 2012 to June 2013, and am hoping to start teaching in Korea in September 2013. It's nice to know that it's possible to get a good job then and that I should apply early. I was afraid I would have to find some random 6 month job in between June and February next year.
