This movie was the 2nd on my list of movies of 2012 to see. I'm probably amped for TDKR as much as I was for Prometheus. But unlike Prometheus, it seems Nolan's conclusion to the Batman Trilogy isn't going to be an appalling disappointment. It apparently even got a standing ovation at the early press release.

Critic reactions from the Press Screening. Warning: It's a tad spoilerish.

The third act of the third film delivers a series of jolting twists and jarring turns and an exclamation point climax. Nolans finale takes Batman and his on-screen mythology to place it has never been before.

Better than TDK in some ways

Wow. Quite speechless at the moment, but i'll say that TDKR was everything I wanted it to be. I'll post up on SHH when I get home.
There was no mention of any embargo but I assume the professional critics know the deal anyways. Don't read spoilers if they come afloat.
I will say some fans will find certain aspects controversial, but in my eyes, everything in the film fit the overall scheme of this installment and the series in general and Nolan really couldn't have mad it any more epic

I really don't want to answer questions right now lol and I refuse to spoil anything for anyone. When I get back on SHH, i'll write up a little something - still no spoilers - about the film overall, the characters, and the actors who were all spectacular.

As far as audience reaction, there were only 40-50 ppl in attendance (mostly critics), but there was applause and I leaned over and shook Michael Uslan's hand and congratulated him when his name appeared in the credits. I, myself, cried twice...once out of sadness and once out of pure geeky uncontrollable happiness.

Nolan has completely nailed a PERFECT end to this series. Everything is EPIC - the score, the action, the emotional triggers - all epic.

Action scenes were excellent and truly make this move epic. The last 20 minutes with Batman and Bane are some of the finest fight scenes I've ever seen in a superhero movie. The camera is pulled back and slowed down to show the blows. Posted by KnightOfTheFall

@sridhar1396 9 out of 10 for me. I'd put Amazing Spider-Man at a 7.5 and Avengers at an 8.5

From SuperHeroHype Forums:

Bane, whilst nowhere near as impressive as Joker, was an excellent choice for a bad guy. This guy is pure malevolence. There is a particularly violent moment which involves bane and a poor wall street dude. It's something all parents need to be aware of before taking kids.

Selina was great and Hathaway nailed the character and made her own interpretation but there are many little traits from past origins that come into play.

JGL is not robin nor does he appear in the suit. He is just an idealistic beat cop. Nothing more. His character is handled and written well.

Bale was excellent as Batman and finally, The Bat Voice, is done with justice. It's not as forced as it was previously.

The Dark Knight Rises has just finished screening for the press and critics, receiving a STANDING OVATION!!!

#2, #3 and #1 for the general filmgoer, #3,#2, #1 for me. I think this film closed the trilogy brilliantly, and Nolan took risks
https://twitter.com/#!/TomMcAuliffe

@TomMcAuliffe
@Luigumus the trilogy is greater than the sum of its parts, and for me the 3rd was the very best part of the whole story

‏@TomMcAuliffe
@Luigumus Dark knight is a classic in its own right - it stands alone, but in this trilogy, and as a closer, this film exceeds

‏@TomMcAuliffe
@Inferno313 its an ending that presents opportunity for thought for sure

‏@TomMcAuliffe
@BLopez527 risky/tough story well told, brilliantly acted, great cinematography, awesome score

I can't wait, it releases in Korea on the 19th. I was planning to watch it Sat or Sunday morning to save money but I might end up watching it the day it comes out, or watch it twice like I did with The Dark Knight.

Fantastic. Does this finally mean they aren't going to make any more Batman movies? Great news Laughing

I'm also looking forward to TDKR.

I think people are a bit harsh on Prometheus though. It was never going to live up to the ridiculous expectations placed on it. I thought it passed. It has a fresh rating in RT. Some people just don't like Sci-fi terror and I wouldn't be surprised if the same people who didn't like Prometheus also didn't like Pitch Black for example.

Hollywood's been on a downswing for a while, correlates with general trends in terms of to what extent people are eager to investigate, ponder, and create new things, as opposed to having the familiar handed to them (see the thread on music, or general correlation between popular belief and tabloid headlines)

I'm surprised at the negative reactions. Even if you're not a fan of comic book movies (I'm not), you have to admit Nolan took the Batman franchise to another level. Everything thing the man directs is at the very least decent, if not good.

Prometheus is good for what it is, not for what it tries to be. I had really high expectations for it because, Alien, but after reflection, I think I like it.

More glowing reviews from critics and fans who caught the early release

Quote:
Best conclusion to a film I have seen since The Shawshank Redemption. Thats all I can say. 9.2/10

I would probably rank the films like this

Batman Begins 8.4/10
The Dark Knight 8.7/10
The Dark Knight Rises 9.2/10

Best film trilogy since The Lord of the Rings. The only thing that really stopped this film from scoring higher was that, unfortunately, it does drag a little bit. The running time was my only concern going in. Its not so much a fault in the film itself (the running time is necessary to bring the trilogy full circle, and to answer any unresolved questions), I just got a little uncomfortable sitting in the theatre for so long haha.

And yes, there was a standing ovation at the end. Brilliant, brilliant film. Literally in the same league as The Godfather: Part II in terms of story-telling and character. The real question is, whats next for Mr. Nolan?

The Dark Knight Rises LA junket experience - By Kate Rodger

"But the word disappointment certainly wont be featuring when my full review is cleared for posting next Tuesday. Consider the embargo respected (Im such a good girl) and hang fire for July 19 when the film opens in NZ. It might pay to bear in mind that Nolans love of the IMAX camera crossed new frontiers this time around, and he shot an entire half the film using them. Aucklanders, I urge you to see The Dark Knight Rises at IMAX if you can."

The Dark Knight Rises probably has the best chance ever for a superhero film to rise into the best-picture mix at Februarys Oscars. The film is the last in a celebrated trilogy that elevated comic-book movies to operatic proportion, and Hollywood likes sending finales out with a lovely door-prize (Peter Jacksons first two Lord of the Rings films were Oscar also-rans before the trilogys conclusion won best picture).

It has the weight and scope and then some of 2008s The Dark Knight, the Batman Begins sequel whose snub in the best-picture field helped prod the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to expand the category to more than five nominees.

The film is gorgeous, sharply written, briskly paced despite an epic running time approaching three hours. The characters have depth and pathos, and the drama feels far richer than the usual hero-saving-the-world saga. The action reflects our own hard times as a masked terrorist lays siege to the masses in a sort of perverse Occupy Gotham City movement that pits the comic-book worlds 99 percenters against the rich and rapacious.

4 out of 4 stars.

Blows number 1 & number 2 away. Best film since Pan's Labyrinth which was, chronologically, the last great film I have seen. I signed a waiver so I don't want to give up anything except it is incredible and is probably best enjoyed in IMAX form. The Avengers was fast food. This is filet mignon and will most likely generate incredible word of mouth. It's a head scratcher why they aren't getting the reviews going on this film sooner than later. The ending was pretty emotional. Honestly, the word that there are bad reviews out there are, in my opinion, totally bogus because the film obeys all the logic within the world it creates for itself. I found the first two films and Inception were on the overly long side, but this installment uses every moment wisely without any lagging moments that don't contribute to the overall pacing. The acting is superb and Gary Oldman really, really needs to get an Oscar. He deserves it here. The action is spectacular and not recycled. CGI is used sparingly and the real satisfaction you get by the end is from raw emotion due to the writing and performances but I've already said too much. The cinematography is excellent as always however you're not going to see cookie cutter CGI enhanced cliches. You will see things you haven't seen countless times before and that is what's so refreshing about this film. (About Anne's acting): Sexy as hell. I never really paid attention to her as an actress in the past but I will now. Michelle Pfeiffer be damned! The music was fine. I've never really paid attention to the soundtracks of the first two films to be honest. Nolan's brilliance is that he doesn't let CGI or booming music or ANYTHING take centre stage over the story and characterizations. I can't give any further details on this film other than it is a helluva movie! A perfect masterpiece. It would be something to see the third entry in a trilogy win Best Picture. I hated Bane as much as I hated Clarence Boddiker in Robocop!

Comparisons to the Lord of the Rings, and even to the Godfather Part II (my favorite movie ever). Multiple mentions of Oscars. I already got my ticket reserved next week. Can't wait.

People went nuts over The Dark Knight and I thought that was a bloated piece of self-serious nonsense. So I'll keep my expectations in check.

Batman Begins is terrible.

Was that the one with one ending after about two hours and then another two after that? I couldn't wait to get out of that cinema.

Can anyone find a release date for Korea and/or Thailand? Google/IMDB/etc aren't giving me anything. (I'm gonna be on vacation for a week or so around the American release date, in Thailand, which is why I mentioned it)

Anyway, I'm sure I'll see it sooner or later, hopefully sooner.

July 19th in Korea.

Your best bet for finding out movie release dates in Korea is to go to one of the big theatre chain websites (e.g. CGV) and click on "상영예정작" which means upcoming movies (the link usually found in the 영화 section of the site). The list they have usually has the release date alongside it, and if the movie isn't listed there, a release date probably hasn't been set.
