I'm trying to save some money before coming to Korea and I wonder what a reasonable amount of money would be for me to bring. I already have taken care of the airfare. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Are you going to work here and, if so, when are you coming? The living expenses are similar to the US and Europe so, food wise, expect to spend at least $100/week on food. If you're coming to work you will likely not have to spend for accommodation but you might have to buy some home comforts.

Just bring $100 to exchange at the airport and your credit card.

When I first came here I lived off of 700K won for about a month and half until I was paid. That included buying things to get set up with my new life and food. However, I didn't go out at all during that time to make sure I had enough money so maybe it will be a little bit boring for you.

The more the better. It's a good idea to bring about $1000 USD in cash or traveler's checks to live on until your first paycheck, which usually takes about 5 weeks. I say cash or traveler's checks because it can sometimes be tricky to find an ATM that accepts foreign debit and credit cards.

If at all possible, I'd also recommend having access to funds or a credit card that will let you buy a plane ticket home in case you end up in a bad situation.
