Hello,

I had an urgent question regarding the Letter of Release. My current contract (dodgy after-school program) is set to expire on September 4th. My new job will begin August 27th. With only a week between contracts, would it still be necessary to obtain a Release Letter? The guy on the immigration hotline told me "YES" when I asked a few weeks ago, but I thought I remember reading on here that if it is only one week between contracts, the LOR can be waived in some cases.

Thanks for your help!

In your specific case then yes, since the new job starts BEFORE the old one ends, you will need the LOR or permission of your old/current employer.

If it was the other way around and the new job started after the old job ended you could do the paperwork during your last week at your old job ie: If the new job started on Sept 5 and the old job ended on Sept 4 then yes, you could transfer without a LOR.

Apologies, but to piggyback on this question with a similar one: with the new 13 month E2, do you need to get a LOR if your old job finishes and your new one starts in that gap of one month?

Cheers!

Mind PMing me which after school program you work for? I also work for a semi-dodgy one and I'd like to talk about what you're doing as far as looking for new jobs.
