I was offered a position teaching a Pre/SchoolKindergarten class. Now I don't have any experience teaching at that age group but I was told not to worry about it so I think it would be like Romper Room or something like that. So I was just wondering if there may be any sites that are really good for teaching like this....less formal more play.

Thanks

There was a 35 year-old gyopo working at my old kindergarten... He screamed at the kids and made them cry and refused to listen to the rules of the kindergarten... However, no one did anything because he was the only male in the office.

If you love kids and have no cares in the world as to how they act or treat you~ go for it. That kind of position drove me up the wall, personally... but if being forced to let your students sleep in class, scream, fight, run around, throw stuff, not do any work and not listen to you (because frowns, punishments, and rewarding only the good students makes kids sad and stressed and not come to kindergarten anymore) while still being asking "why aren't your kids doing their work?" sounds like fun~ go for it ^.^

As for teaching, they'll probably have books and such there... but pretty much it will be free-for-all, so... get ready

Just take off your shirt and let the kids and your co-workers see you topless. The female teachers will want to be with you. The men will want to be you. They'll love you and everything will be wonderful.

If it doesn't work out, then just pretend to go to the washroom and sneak out the back door.

Personally, I loved teaching kindergarten. Suggest the following themes for your class.

1)Learn the kids names.
2)Use sticker charts.
3)Make sure you have an assistant / helper for snots and potty stuff.
4)Dont let the kids speak Korean (yes, I know the kids are 5 years old) directly to the assistant / helper or speak any Korean for that matter, unless the kids ask May I speak Korean?, then after you give permission they can chatter away in Korean; even though the kids dont understand what they are saying this control makes you the power figure in class. Without the control you are in deep trouble. If they break the rules put the kids name in the sad list for students that wont get a sticker that day unless the student improves and gets off the sad list.
5)Schedule one meeting with all the parents and tell them the importance of the stickers. Ask the parents to check with their kids everyday if they got a sticker. Then you own the class.

As for the class, focus on the alphabet and numbers then site words. Us the alphabet ans numbers for memory games, running games, and bingo and you are golden.

If that does not work try Troglodyte's topless suggestion.

Ok thanks for the tips.

It sounds too much like teaching though.
I need something more casual and to kill more time while at the same time have more fun doing so.

What's your current job like, i.e. what you do in class? And what age do you teach?

Thanks.

Found out about this job recently and figured I'd give it a go.

Do you believe kindergarten/preschool students to be less intense/less work than older students?

If you're looking for something easy and relaxing, kindergarten is not it.

It's immensely rewarding to work with kindergarten students but it takes a bit of planning and a lot of energy to be with them.
