Hi,
I'm thinking of accepting a offer in Ulsan. Im keen to try make some connections before I go as I will be the only foreign teacher, and I dont know anyone out there.

Any suggestions?

Ulsanonline.com and the facebook group with the same name.

Try for Busan or Seoul, though. I lived in Ulsan for a long time, and spent every weekend in Busan. There are a few nice places there, but nothing like Busan or Seoul.

Ulsan is a great place for socialising if you do it right. We're a fairly tight community here - everyone knows everyone, which you won't get in the bigger cities - and most of the socialising is done within that extended circle. Ulsan, as a place, hasn't got much going for it so it's all about the people, most of whom are fantastic.

If you're going to be the only foreign teacher, make sure you come prepared though. I had 10 horrifically miserable weeks when I first arrived because I was the only foreign teacher at my school and didn't know anyone. Then I started making some friends and the rest is history. I can't really say much for Ulsan online - it's great once you know where stuff actually is, but telling a newcomer to go to "Bar X, just down the road from Shigae Tap in Old Downtown" is pretty much useless. A better bet is the Ulsan Online Facebook group. You'll need a bit of luck and a kind of "I'm up for doing anything if it means meeting some people and having a nice time" kind of attitude, but it's a valuable resource for everyone, not just newcomers. Also, get a phone as soon as you can - Gmarket (gmarket.com) isn't bad, but if you can bear the eye-watering cost, get your coteacher to help you get a smartphone. It took me about 6 weeks to get a phone sorted and when I finally did it made things a lot easier.
