|
|
A little background:
I'm splitting up from my fiance and we have a place together. We put 10 million in key money together, each putting in 5 million.
Now that were split, she's going to stay a friend's place while I'm at the house. I'd like to move my stuff into a new place, but don't have enough savings to for the key money.
Does anybody know if it's possible to get a new apartment without key money?
On a sidenote, has anybody been in this situation before? It's a mess. |

The only places available that for sure don't require key money are goshiwon. You might have trouble getting your stuff into a goshiwon unless your stuff is a small suitcase of clothing.
It also depends on where in Korea you are. I'm out in the boonies where there are some older apartments available for monthly rent with no key money.
There's always a cheap motel. |

If you can swing 2-3 million won, you can definitely find a place in the Haebangchon area--and I'd be willing to bet that you could find one there even without key money if you talked to a few real estate agents.
Aside from that, you might want to check out Craig's List since many of the places advertised on there are available without key money. Several are up now actually: http://seoul.craigslist.co.kr/apa/
It sounds like a messy situation. Hope you and your fiance can work things out. |

It's fiance, dudes (she's a she, right?)
Would you consider going to the real estate agent and trying to get out of your lease, and each taking 5 million? Minus the lease-breaking penalty, that is. |

certain places like gangnam, songpa, and itaewon will have places where you just put up one month's deposit (i'm in a villa in gangnam with this setup). the tradeoff being higher monthly rent but you may be able to work out a shorter-term deal with these places while you save up for another place. |

+1
outside of HBC area finding a place for no more than 5mill key money will be quite difficult, unless you want to live in a shoe box or pay huge rent. HBC is your best bet |

Yep Gangnam-gu, month to month. There are 1-br nice places for around $1.1M plus dues, or crappy cubes for $0.6M. |
