I signed a contract for a university that starts on September 1.... I have since decided that I would prefer to stay in my current location and sign on once more for this job. The new university doesn't have any original documents for my visa application.... When I tell them that I do not intend to follow through on my contract, can they cause problems with immigration?
I think it I will be fine, but a coworker made me worry. |

If you have not done anything to transfer your visa to them then there is nothing they can do to force you to take the position (labor standards act) in spite of having signed a contract.

So it turns out that they have applied for a VIN without the original documents. I am currently on an E2, and the VIN is for an E1.
If I find someone to switch my E2 over to, will the Visa Issuance Number affect that process?
Is there a way to cancel a VIN?
Basically, this school is coming along little by little with more shady practices. They want me to start teaching a week before my contract starts. They want me to fly over for training the week before that (even though I am still under contract with my current public school job.)
The housing is sounding shady as well. When I requested housing, they told me it would be in faculty dorms or they would find a one room... and I am just now finding out they plan to put me in the student dorms, just to take out the extra beds and desks and add a kitchenette and bathroom.... eventually....
Man I thought uni jobs were supposed to be a step up. As of now the only positive I see to this job is the vacation time. I am considering getting a short-term visa, working part-time, studying Korean, and just waiting it out until the March uni intake when I can try my chances for a better university. |
