Ahhhhahahaha.
I've been in 30 countries and Koreans are definitely the most racist people I've ever come across, inn terms of attitudes.
It is ridiculous that in the 21st century a whole nation is scared witless of even sitting next to a foreign person. It is pathetic. |

| Modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. I avoid that dirty place like the plague. Just something disgusting about that city that I quite can't put my finger on. I much prefer Hongdae if I'm up for a more "cosmopolitan" atmosphere. |

| I was surprised when I heard that Koreans don't like Itaewon because there are always Koreans shopping in Itaewon. Has it changed? Was it once only for foreigners? |

| I don't go to Itaewon very often, but recently I've noticed proportionally far more Koreans there than even just a few years ago. |

| Well, I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era. I would be surprised if the papers were concerned about a new old, old wooden ship, but nice try. |

It's not that strange. One of the reasons people go there is because it feels like "not-Korea." I can see why some people might not like there being too many Koreans in Itaewon. |

Itaewon is Sodom and Gomorrah? Where did you grow up, Pleasantville? |

Yes, when I visit Itaewon these days I do notice, especially in the daytime, the number of Koreans has greatly increased.
When I first came in 2003 I saw few Koreans hanging-out in Itaewon.
Now, I often figure 50% or more of the people I see are Korean, especially the younger generation.
It fits the overall pattern of change I have seen in nine years among the younger generation.
When I first came some of my students would cross the street so they did not have to say "Hi" or "Annyong" to me.
Now young Koreans (under 25) often strike up random conversations with me and my students in their 20s have no fear of me. |

I remember back in 2006 that there weren't so many Koreans in Itaewon. Personally, I liked it that there weren't so many Koreans there because it was nice to kind of get away, but that's okay. There are plenty of foreigners there, though they're not necessarily the majority. It also helped that Itaewon has gentrified some areas. There are many more nice restaurants there and different ethnic foods. I could kind of see it coming. One of my friends kept on playing down what I was saying about Itaewon having a better image with time. The soldiers are not as big an element in Itaewon like they used to be. |
