There's a teacher in my office who routinely clips his nails (finger AND toenails) in the office.

Like... seriously? He can't find time ANYWHERE else in his schedule for basic hygiene? I cannot wrap my mind around this. It's disgusting.

If a clipping ever flies my way I don't know what I'd do.

Anyone else have any stories about weird behavior exhibited in the workplace?

It's not exactly flinging poo. I don't think it's disgusting just inappropriate. Best to ignore it, rather than risk falling of that really, really, high horse.

That kind of stuff is so normal I don't even care anymore. The smoking inside the office does bother me though. Especially considering there's a smoking area like 3 meters away. There's also some people who wash their hair in the restroom, which is weird to me. I sometimes eat at my desk but only because I clock in earlier than everybody else and nobody else is around.

Yeah, I'm on a high horse to expect someone to clip their nails at home or in private.

Could it be you in my office?

I suppose it is more inappropriate than disgusting--when I wrote that up he was in the middle of it which probably colored my post.

You've guessed! Haha.

If someone thinks it's fine to clip their toenails in the office (I don't) they might also think protests are naive or 'superior'. I'd just treat it as an annoying habit like eating smelly food, snoring etc.

Next time the guy clips his nails in the office you should, in a very mysterious and sinister manner, collect his nails from the floor and put them in a red pouch. When he asks you what you are doing just answer in a maniacal laugh "you'll find out soon enough."

For Koreans, it is considered bad luck to cut nails at night. I use to find it pretty gross though. It tooki me a while to get used to the office nail clipping and teeth brushing Smile

The teeth brushing drives me nuts. Especially when they do it over the kitchen sink then spit it out into the sink. Um, that's where we prepare the food people.

Gross.

The old guy in my office pours his cups out...on the office floor. I kid you not. He will just stand up and with a bit of a flick of the wrist let the contents spill on the floor.

Every morning he also has what looks like orange peel tea. Fine, no problem, but he drinks it out of a giant glass jar. When he does so he is a dead ringer for an old Korean man version of Winnie the Pooh.

Which leads me to the last thing he does that springs to mind. Whenever he sits down he undoes his belt, loosens his pants button...and unzips. He used to try and hide this with a newspaper or blanket, but now that it's really hot he doesn't seem to care anymore. It's really frightening when he suddenly has a question and walks over to you holding his pants together as best as he can with one hand as though I couldn't notice. He does it in our class too. But luckily he just sits in the back and gazes out the window all class.

There's a small men's room right outside our office. It only contains a urinal. He uses it, but when he does, he leaves the door open. That's not in the office so maybe I shouldn't mention it, but it's still disturbing. I teach in an all girls' high school btw.

Odd thing about living in Korea is that it seems a lot of Korean girls have a story about some ajeosshi flashing them or displaying some kind of exhibitionist behavior. I have a friend from Daegu who told me the same ajeosshi would come to her high school (also all-girls) everyday at the same time and flash people. You'd think they'd have someone look out for the guy... Confused

Guys, (and especially Mr. Bloopy), although I can empathize and understand the situation you are all in, these office habits are hardly something serious or even worth complaining about.

Go to Shanghai and see a mother holding a pooping baby in the middle of the subway over a trash can, its pooping just falling right into the middle of the bin. Followed by the mom wiping his butt and throwing that in the trash can too. I'm sure that's a little worse than someone brushing their teeth or clipping their nails.

But teeth brushing is more hygienic...

Lol check out the scariest waygook thread.

I used to think Korea was a repository for sub-par westerners until I noticed there is an even higher ratio of freaks in the west itself.

I used to live in Shanghai and have seen that kind of thing many times. Except we are not talking about China nor was that something in an office. I've seen a Korean kid just squat and take a dump on the street and another take a piss in the corner of the kim chi field museum at COEX. Again, that is irrelevant as it was not in an office. Although I did happen across a girl clipping her tonails in a Pizza Hut in China... I didn't finish my pizza.
