Chinese authorities in the northwestern province of Xinjiang have banned Muslim officials and students from fasting during the month of Ramadan, prompting an exiled rights group to warn of new violence.
Guidance posted on numerous government websites called on Communist Party leaders to restrict Muslim religious activities during the holy month, including fasting and visiting mosques.
Xinjiang is home to about nine million Uighurs, largely a Muslim ethnic minority, many of whom accuse China's leaders of religious and political persecution.
...
"It is forbidden for Communist Party cadres, civil officials (including those who have retired) and students to participate in Ramadan religious activities."
...
Similar orders on curbing Ramadan activities were posted on other local government websites, with the educational bureau of Wensu county urging schools to ensure that students do not enter mosques during Ramadan. |

I have long believed that China is a ticking time bomb due to the suppression of minority ethnic groups by Han Chinese. Tibet has long been an issue, Muslims are beginning to be persecuted and Hong Kong is slowly being pulled into mainland China (ideologically).
Do you guys think the country is due for an implosion? |

No, the Party is benevolent and cares for the well being of all party members, muslims included. If the party's love is not enough, then they will have an opportunity to see the error of their ways and be re-educated in luxurious hard labour camps that are envy of the world. Aljazeera is a meer drop to the party's love that is deeper than the ocean and higher than the sky, more intense than industrial lasers. Death Star is just a tennis ball compared to the party.

Not for ethnic divisions, no. China is 92% Han, the world is 20% Han.

That's because it's equally difficult for a terrorist to get a visa to enter China. |

I don't know if this news is true or not, even it is true, it is no different than hearing Muslim women are banned from wearing veil in public in some European countries.
Btw, do the athletes fast? |

There are quite a few terrorist attacks in China, courtesy of the Xinjiang Muslims. The government shuts it down/covers them up pretty quickly though.
China, nice people, horrid government, Mao is respected. Hard to respect that really. |

Yeah, I can't imagine a modern nation of nice, progressive people respecting and erecting monuments to slave-holders or colonizers or people who conquered other nations and subjugated them. |

I can't imagine you having a social life or friends, either. Not that I think about you much, so don't flatter yourself. Do me a favor and keep derailing other people's posts, it is better for us all if you just ignore me. |

I'm actually pretty sure it's the other way around, at least in this case. China is trying to destroy it's minority cultures, and install the religion of the party in it's place. |

China isn't trying to destroy its minority cultures. China's policy towards almost all of its 50 or so recognized minorities range from neutral to benign. China is a civilized culture, and the Chinese state treats most of the minorities with the enlightened condescension of an older brother. China really only seeks to pacify the Tibetans and Uighers. These two minorities have special ambitions of independence. Chinese imperialism will not allow such separatism. (Note to Chinese: 'Splittism' is Chinglish. Using this CCP contrived term will subject you to due scorn in the English-speaking world. The correct term is 'separatism')
The 10 million Uighers and 6 million Tibetans have little chance of prevailing against the billion Han. Nor would separating their territory do much good beyond creating two more Central Asian 'stans, although at least in Tibet's case there seems to be some chance of a possible democracy (then again, Nepal's embrace of Maoism may make that questionable). The best the West can do is politely request that the Han be merciful in their imperialist aims and avoid the kind of imperialist misconduct running rife throughout our own history. I see little point in hectoring the Han Chinese on extending special rights to the minorities which they themselves lack. |

Yeah when the Mainland and Formosa unify, which government is going to be the legitimate government or should be the legitimate government? |
