|
|
I've heard from many people (online and offline) that, if you wish to (for example) finish up a current contract in Korea, travel/visit home for a little bit, come back and sign a new contract at a new school, you have 3 months from the time you leave the country wherein your apostilled criminal background check/diploma will still be acceptable for getting a new Visa. After that, you need a new one.
Does that sound about right to everybody? That's basically the situation I'm in right now. Some people have suggested that I go ahead and just start on new paperwork regardless just in case, but if I'm definitely going to be back in Korea before the 3 months, then it shouldn't matter, right? Unless that's "3 months to land a job" vs. "3 months to get back into the country", in which case it would definitely be prudent to apply for a new one before I leave here. I'm just looking for general clarification about when its necessary to apply for new background checks.
Also, somebody mentioned to me earlier about a new temporary "Looking for a Job" Visa that you can get when you get into the country if you show legitimate proof that you're hunting for a new job. Is there any truth to this? Thanks in advance. |

Great question!
I have heard this too. Still I expect flub ups. It is understandable for immigration to forgo the degree verification. They will more likely ask for a new Criminal record check. If you are paranoid get the CRC in process of being done. Even if it is not ready by the time you try for a new job, you can still say you have it coming. When you get it you will be able to submit. The official might give you some allowance.
As to looking for work visa - It is called the D-10. It has been discussed on the site before. Using google site:forums.eslcafe.com/korea "D-10"
Good Luck. |

| I came back after 7 weeks and picked up my documents from immigration. The guy seemed a little confused as I don't think this is very common and perhaps even a somewhat newer policy. He made a quick call to someone and then proceeded to make copies of. My documents free of charge. I have used these for my new job and hopefully will get a visa issuance number any day now. |

Tried this "less than 3 months thing" back in June, didn't work with my CRC, even after CLEARLY pointing out the policy on the immigration website that allows for it.
Needed to get a new CRC, and do a visa-run. Sigh. |

Could you please if you can please post a link to the policy. It would be nice to have. |

Yeah if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't true. I wouldn't trust hearing about that, even when it's from immigration, enough to come back to Korea without a new CBC. It's easy to misread rules and regulations, I have done it disastrously before. |

| Wild bore, at what point n the process did they tell you it was not acceptable? My company has all my documents now but they had no problem giving me my documents and stamping them at immi. |

Thanks guys. The sense I get is that I might as well just get a new one done. I've also heard that your CRC is good for 6 months from after the FBI does their search. Does this sound right at all?
All these numbers and dates make my head spin! Brings back bad memories of doing this the first time, haha. |

Pretty much 6 months from date of issue on the check. Recruiters and immi officials might turn up their nose at ripe or almost CRCs. Basically 5 months you are going to get odd glances.
I actually did find a reference on the HiKorea site about your question. Through it was a little dated. Well 2 years to me seems a bit dated Tried finding it on the Korean side, but I am embarrassed to say my Korean is horrible and no luck.
Here is the link I hope it works.
