You've all probably seen this mess with the violence these days in the news-- like the [b] High heel girl[/g] beating another chick at a nightclub with a stiletto. See link below.

Personally, I don't think these kinds of incidents are very uncommon. It just seems to be that we're all bored and finding them more interesting. Laughing

My friend swears that Korea's becoming more violent. I don't think so, just visibly violent. Stabbings, crazies, and fights were common even back when being a "gangsta" was considered a viable career path. It's amazing the way they talk about violence on the news these days considering that Korea used to be even more violent back in the day...especially right after the war with the rise of the black market. Nowadays, the propensity to throw the antics in mainstream media and was blogs (keke...here) is easier. Odd though how the news stations seem to talk about this stuff as if it's all new. 폭행 폭행 폭행...oh my God...a knife!? What short or rather warped memories.... Confused

Look around your classrooms. Korean kids are violent always hitting each other and they grow up thinking it's ok because the adults never reprimand them. This country certainly has the potential to be more violent and I think you'll see more and more of these videos popping up over time.

All that shit was common when I was growing up. It wasn't that rare for somebody to get beat up by a group thugs. I think the media and people in general are always looking to sensationalize things. Violent murders happened back in the day too.

I do think random knifing sprees specifically were less common but it could be that the media is focusing on them more or the cops are not as good at covering that kind of stuff up anymore.

That's certainly was true growing up here. An upperclassman hits a younger student, the teachers go, "Hey, don't do that." Be late for class, the same teacher smacks you across the head. Forget to turn in your homework, you'll get judo thrown across the classroom. All true stories. Anyone who thinks Korea is safe hasn't lived here as a kid.

I don't know, but I see it as a bad mixture of socialized acceptance and flighty consideration of violence as a general means of expression, lack of temper control, repression and the rebound effect, and the time (ie society changing).
