If you leave your job a week before your contract is done and you have another job, do you need to have a release paper for your other job to get the extension to your visa?
And what papers would you need to extend your visa?
sorry, asking for a co teacher who just did that and now my korean co teachers are freaking out... |

Moving schools is not an extension. It is a transfer. Yes to transfer to a new job a person needs a "Letter of Release" aka LOR.
One point is the employer is NOT legally obligated to provide the LOR.
No LOR = no transfer.
As how to do the transfer check out the HiKorea website
http://www.hikorea.go.kr
Also search this board it has been discussed before.
Using google site:forums.eslcafe.com/korea visa transfer |

So what if the person just goes out of the country and then comes back? can he apply for an entirely new visa? |

Then you need new documents. If it is only 10 days, I think you can just apply for the new contract to be effective on the day after the previous contract ends without needing the letter of release. |

Actually looking back at this post. My previous post wall a bit off.
If you leave Korea and hand in ARC card. Your present visa/contract is canceled. Many people just do a Japan ferry trip and come back as a tourist. The problem with this is you will need new documents. Getting a new verified degree and Criminal record check can take time.
Umm a recent post, posts, cleared the air. I think you are right. The key thing is you can not really transfer until you finish a job. I think there is some leeway of a little time before. I think 7 days.
Some people say you do need the LOR even if you are transferring near the end. If possible get it from ex employer, it will just make things easier. |
