|
|
| Hey, I'm heading to Korea in a couple of days and was packing things up and was wondering if you can get a bluray player in Korea that plays North American blurays? I've looked on craigslist seoul and the buy/sell forum here and haven't seen any for sale, but maybe you can get them in the stores there? |

| You won't find many discs here for sale, everyone downloads everything. |

| Oh, I figured downloads would be the deal, but I was thinking of bringing some blurays with me, and wondering if there would be a way to play them? |

| Just download whatever you need.. you might find a multiregion blue ray player here, but who knows if it'll be any good. Save the space for things you'll need. |

| Read a wikipedia article saying that blueray here was the same as in America. Regular DVD's are a different region. |

your blueray player region code is the same in Korea as it is in the USA. So, if you buy a blueray here, you can play your US bought blueray movies.
BUT. DVD region codes are different and (last time I tried) there is no available patch to make your blueray DVD player (your blueray will play both) switch to universal. So if you buy DVDs in the US, your blueray will not play them.
Don't get me started on region codes. |

You could easily find a PS3 here, that's got a bluray player.
This country still uses a lot of VHS and cassettes. Like other posters have expressed, it's either digital or dated technology here.
My experience with Korea(ns) and bluray has led me to believe that it hasn't caught on and I don't think it will. |

I bought an LG BD390 player in Korea for 370,000 won a few years ago. It is now considerably cheaper than that. You can also get Blu Ray discs at Kyobo Bookstores and other places, and the selection is growing.
And yes, Korean and U.S. Blu Ray discs are compatible. But I order from the U.S. titles that are unavailable in Korea. |

As everyone has noted, Korea and the US (and Japan, btw) share the same region for Bluray but not DVD. It is, however, very easy to find a cheap region free dvd player at Yongsan or probably on GMarket or whatever. Incidentally, many region free dvd players also play both NTSC and PAL video, so you don't have to worry about that.
I don't know about a combo bluray-region free dvd player, but I'm sure if you google around a bit you could probably find out if they exist. |

I've got a samsung bluray player that I bought last year from the samsung store. I think the price was around 150k won. YOu could probably get a much better one with 3d capabilities for a similar price or just a bit more.
Blurays from back home will work in korea. It's all the same region code.
I wouldnt buy blurays from korean stores... You wont get much variety and they are quite expensive. I would suggest you just buy them from Amazon.com or similar store and have them shipped to you. Just buy a bunch. Shipping should only be like 15$ extra... I've done it a few times. |

Blu Ray players in Korea can play American Blu Rays but probably not regular American DVDs. I know a guy who bought an expensive region-free Blu Ray player by Denon but said the region-free function was lost after a firmware update.
Prices of Blu Ray discs in Korea are starting to fall but the selection seems focused on the latest titles. |
