I'm sure many have seen the recent video of that "Die Hard" Korean police officer and I just wanna give a particular and personal shout out to the
KNP today.

I had to visit the main offices of the KNP in a small town for a civil complaint. As soon as I expressed I had a 'problem' I was immediately
directed to a young, well spoken police officer who was thoroughly professional and knowledgable in his profession AND English.

The problem has yet to be rectified, but not because of their due dilligence.

But if anyone should have civil complaint, dress well, be calm, visit them
and I think and hope you have the same experience I had this morning.

Kudos to the KNP~

btw, PROOF of your complaint will be a huge benefit and further clarify things and gain their support.

I'll second that.

I've had a few dealings with K-cops & in each instance they were polite, considerate, & acted professionally.

On an additional note:

I learned today that should anyone sign a lease for an apartment in Korea, it's the primary responsiblity of the landlord/owner to make sure
you fully understand the conditions of the lease agreement. If he/she
doesn't and in the courts of law, the fault is 70% them, 30% you.

But naturally, it's only prudent to be sure of WHAT you're sign'n before you sign anything no matter what language it's in.

But, regarding my matter, I was 100% in the know and in the right.

The police were pretty nice to me after I was summoned to their station for allegedly assaulting an ajoshi. I got to eat lunch with the detectives in the police cafeteria, and they let me have as much coffee from their machine as I wanted free of charge. I thought they acted professionally and felt like I had good rapport with everyone except for my accuser. I have half the mind to drop off some donuts someday.

I've actually only had good experiences with the police here. I've had two break-ins and my wife was attacked (all seperate incidents) and they were nothing but professional. They rightfully sided with us on the attack (minor attack btw) and even caught one of the break-ins. They had taken the guy's footprint and was able to match it up with one of his other crimes. Happy to know that SOB is rotting in prison right now.

Kudos to them as well and I second the advice on being polite, calm and yes, well dressed.

Yea, seems like the cops here get a bad rap. When they screw up, it's in a big way and makes the national news for weeks. In nearly a decade of living in Korea both as an EFL teacher and a business consultant, I have had 2 minor run ins with local law enforcement and one major one. All 3 experiences were as positive as I could have imagined under the circumstances. I even wrote a letter (in Korean) to my local Gu Police Station commenting on how impressed I was with one of the officers who had to deal with one of the minor incidents I was involved in.. I hope it helped him out in some way...
