It might be fun and useful to make a 'Best of' and Worst of' list of various foods, places, and activities in Seoul. Feel free to offer up any categories you'd like. My 2 cents:

Worst- Lotteria

Coffee Shop:
Best- CBTL
Worst- Cafe Bene

Mexican:
Best- Dos Tacos
Worst- Vatos

Sports pub:
Best- Wolfhound
Worst- 3 Alley (Seoul Pub is an honorable mention)

Subway station:
Best- Noksapyeong
Worst- Sillim

Nightclub:
Best- NB
Worst- Tinpan

Fast food:
Best- Taco Bell
Worst- Lotteria

Bar to 'catch the game':
Best- Sam Ryans
Worst- Geckos

Breakfast:
Best- McD's
Worst- Butterfinger

Korean snack food:
Best- kimbap
Worst- those dung shaped bean donuts

your list of "seoul" is quite... itaewon-centric... which is kind of an immediate fail in my eyes.

dos tacos as best mexican? you have a tomatillo right there next to district which is way better. and nb as best niteclub? not by a country mile.

I think this is a "best of Seoul, circa 2003" list.

Lotteria used to be my favorite place for a burger when I was eating fast food on a regular basis.

what's wrong with Sillim subways station? It serves it purpose, and doesn't force you to walk through an underground market like many others do, I see nothing wrong with it.

And what's so great about Noksapyeong? Nothing special in my view.

George Costanza Seal of Approval Public Toilet-

Best: That Seoul Business Center or whatever right across from Seoul Station. Full on bidets, brass and marble fixtures, well stocked paper towels and superb blow dryers. The best part? No trash can next to the toilet and a confident woosh. Also plenty of space to set your bags/hang your coat.

Honorable Mention- If you are in a bind leaving Itaewon (Gee, maybe that Grilled Stuft Burrito wasn't such a good idea), and understandably don't want to use Itaewon Station's less than stellar facilities, head one stop over to Hangangjin and get out and go to the Samsung Blue Note Plaza & Theater.

Worst: Seoul Station (Subway division) or Euljiro 1, I think. For obvious reasons. East Seoul Bus Terminals are pretty rank too.

As a general rule, avoid bathrooms on the Light Blue and Green lines. Dark Blue can be hit or miss as many of those have undergone refurbishing. Of course the newer the line/station, the more likely the facilities are to be acceptable. Also look for ones connected to fancy new office buildings that you can run into for an upgrade over the often spartan subway facilities.

With that being said, you make a best/worst list and then the rest of us will exchange the titles to get our recommendations.

Yeah whats wrong with Shilim? If anything its the opposite. Gotta go deep down to the center of the earth at noksapyeong to get on. Shilim is right there and no markets to go through. there are many worse than Shilim. Depends on the criteria.

Also McDonalds over butterfinger? Are you crazy????
Price yes, but not for taste!

Lotteria definately sucks. You'd think with all this competition, they'd upgrade their menu to be more competitive. I guess it's ok if you want an ice cream or something, but not burgers. Maybe 20 years ago, it was the best deal in town. Nowadays, I see so many other burger joints popping up all over Seoul. I don't think they are making that much money off just foriegners.

That said, the chain does seem to have some dominance out here in the provinces. But Seoul, no way.

As for McDonald's breakfast, there must be something more delicious out there.

Haven't been to every station, but Sillim seems average. Knew a girl there a few years back and went often. Went back to the area for a visit several months ago and the place has upgraded. Definately more businesses that were not there before such as McDonald's, Starbucks, small multi story mall that I didn't enter. Seoul has upgraded on the whole I guess.

I think the architecture is a quite a bit different from most other stations. From a global perspective it's nothing special but I think in Korea it's rather unique.
