|
|
I'm finishing up an MA TESOL degree, and am planning to do an internship this Fall, or Spring 2013. (240 hours/about 3-4 months p/t). I'd like to find an internship in the U.S., but am open to other countries if it is a possibility. I haven't had much of a response from the universities I've sent emails to so far, and am a little surprised at how difficult it is turning out to be just to find a school willing to work with an intern. (I guess I thought most places would jump at the chance for some p/t free labor).
Does anyone have experience, or know of universities/community colleges/institutes, that will work with an intern?
Any info and advice you have is appreciated, and thanks in advance. |

I've never heard of anyone interning for an MA TESOL. Just knock out the degree and get hired. Or is it a requirement, strange as that may be? |

I saw an advertisement for a job in China offering this. |

Well, they can offer it as it's a way to score a cheap or free ESL teacher. But is it necessary? You can get teaching jobs withougt experience if you have your MA TESOL, so why bother? I'd say knock the degree out and get into the job market. |

You'd still have to get some visa specifically for that purpose. If you already have an F-visa, there are plenty of part-time temp gigs advertised on the likes of Craigslist. Another route is if you enrol in a Korean language course here, some of the language course offices give unpaid admin work to some of their students, which could loosely be 'TESOL'. Alternatively, sign up through an au-pair site and go and teach a family's kid English in their home - you can just about get away with that on a tourist visa. |
