Apparently there's a serial killer in my neighbourhood who's targeting young girls. According to Koreans in the office here there have been 5 murders including one in the park across from my house. Red mask inspired? I can't find it in the English news though.

Sounds brutal. |

The stories that I'm hearing are that he is indeed cutting them.
Has anyone else heard anything or read anything? |

I've been trying to keep this red mask myth going. I told my students that he escaped from prison! Now they'll think I was telling the truth all along! Where do you live Zed? Do you have any links to the scoop? |

I live in Sillim-dong, Seoul. Apparently one of the murders was in Boramae Park. These are adults that are talking about this so I'm wondering if there is some validity to it. I haven't noticed any increased police presence around here. There's nothing in the Chosun Ilbo about it. |

Some dead bodies were dumped in that park a few years ago- but nothing reciently. My wifes family is good friends with the police in our town, Shillim (Sillim - whatever) and the cops have no idea what you are talking about! |

I asked about it again before the end of the day and they told me that it was on the Korean news. Sounds a bit fishy to me also. |

Actually, I saw it on the korean news about 3 weeks ago. In the sillim area, they reported that 5 young girls had been stabbed while walking alone on the streets in the wee hours. One had escaped, the others died. But, the police at that time couldn't confirm if it was the work of one person. I watched the report with translation help from my Korean hubby. |

A ficticious story that did the rounds in elementary schools across the country. Students invented a story about a woman who had a botched operation that left her mouth looking rather like the Joker's mouth in the batman series. Consequently, this woman slit the mouths of elementary students so they resembled her. The length of the cut depended on ones blood type. The woman wore a red mask to conceal her scars, and this is how the name "the red mask" was coined. |

Why is it that English papers in Seoul avoid these type of stories? |

I asked my Korean friend who lives in Silim and he hasn't heard anything. He said he'll keep an eye out for any news and let me know. I'll keep you posted. |

Bal Gan mas ku. I heard the "legendary" figure is actually Japanese. A beautiful woman who had botch job surgery so covers her mouth with a mask. I heard she seduces people then uncovers her hidious face and kills them. Apparently she's made her way to korea and is in an area near you now. Of course nobody of such psychopathic tendencies could possibly be a native |

I thought the Red Mask only went after young girls. Seduces them? Hadn't heard that one. |
