Hello,
I'm currently in my second year with a hagwon. However the student enrollment as of late has plummeted so the hagwon is downsizing and they're currently looking for a part time foreigner to replace me at the end of the month. I've had a fairly good relationship overall with the director of the academy with some minor hiccups here and there.
Originally my school bought a ticket for me back in April to go back to the states to visit for two weeks (from Chuseok until the second week of October). The school is willing to change the return date in which I plan to come back around December since I will no longer be with the school. Now my director is suggesting that although she is willing to give me a letter of release to switch my E-2 visa to the D-10 visa, it would be easier if she just reported that I'm currently on vacation from the hagwon and then when I return back to Korea in December she can transfer my visa to another school (I have a possible school lined up for December in which I will know the results sometime this week).
Is there any problem with her doing this? Is this even allowed? What would happen if the academy closed down while I was in America? This would also mean I couldn't get my severance and pension until my visa succesfully transferred correct? I'm also concerned because I'm not sure if the visa process for the D-10 visa would finish before my flight date to America. My last day at the academy is on the 27th while my flight is on October 1st.
Suggestions, opinions, and advice would be greatly appreciated! |

I thought I read somewhere, 30 minutes. If you are leaving a school, it is best to break ties NOW than later. I would do everything to get the D10 now. |

took me 30 mins to get the d-10. however, you'll have to wait for the new ARC which takes about 3 weeks.
as far as i'm aware, your d-10 is good to go on the day you apply, you can always get a certificate of alien registration at immigration which will state your d-10 status - you can show it at the airprot |

I beg to differ on the time frame for the D10. On the day I applied for the D10 I got the D10, my ARC was inserted into a machine and came out with a new expiry date( Feb 2013). This was in Busan. But I have been told by another poster here that when she applied(in the same office) she was told it would take 3 weeks to get her ARC back. Did I just happen to deal with a very nice official? |

The premise is that you have to get a new ARC.
If it is just updated, then I agree with you. The same thing happened to me, but it wasn't a D10 issue. That's why I didn't bring it up until now. I just changed school locations, and they updated the back of my ARC and gave it to me the same day.
If they aren't asking for new photos, then it's likely a new ARC is not needed, so bring a Korean with you and have them ask for the ARC back that day if they officer doesn't give it. |

Perhaps that poster had the old kind of ARC card. The new kind is produced by the national mint and harder to forge. |
