Has anyone done this?? If so.......

A) How long did it take you to complete? With or without online support.

B) What did the final test consist of?

C) How long had you taught prior to taking the test?

I've just received all the booklets and worksheets now and am surprised at how much there is. I was hoping to bash it off before my PS contract starts in July, but now I'm not sure that is possible.

The test is really comprehensive. It's 18 pages long in MS Word. You've got to write 4 different lesson plans, each of a different kind. It took an acquaintance of mine 6 to 8 hours to finish. It'll teach you a lot of grammar.

I finished last May and didn't have to take a test. When I emailed the 'tutor' (who by the way was a complete waste of money) he said that the test was no longer required.

It took me about one month and I finished it during my break times at my public school. If you have teaching experience then I would pass on the support. I paid an extra $100, only to get comments like "everything looks great" or "you wrote a nice lesson plan."

The test wasn't required BECAUSE you paid the extra 100 bucks for the one-line comments. I did the same but I did it because I got a "free" business english cert (50-hours) test after I finished the TEFL cert. Was worth it as I'm staying in Korea and Koreans like shiny papers with ribbons and stamps.

Thread number 97214521 on ITT TEFL.

MODs, lets make it a sticky on the FAQ threads.

1. If you buy the course WITHOUT tutor support, you have to take the test at the end. The test is long and it will take anywhere from 5-10 hours to complete it. 5 hours if you did all the worksheets at the end of the chapter, 10 hours if you didn't even read anything and are just diving right into the test.

2. If you pay the extra money for tutor support, there is NO TEST, but you have to turn in the worksheets at the end of every lesson.

If you choose 1. You have the possibility of failing the test. You will be stressed out for 1 day.

If you choose 2. You won't fail the test. However, you have to do worksheets at the end of every lesson.

The test is pretty indepth with a LOT of typing. You have to give the right answer and then explain WHY it is the right answer, and then give a couple OTHER examples.

The test is NOT multiple choice. Different questions and sections are worth different points. I believe you only need a 70 to pass. My recommendation is to go through and answer all the questions you know the answer to first. Then go through and answer enough questions until you are sure that you scored above 70%.

No, you don't have to complete the whole test. You can leave answers blank.

After submitting the test, they tell you in a day or 2 if you passed. If you passed they will mail the certificate. Takes a couple weeks for it arrive.

If you fail, you have the option of paying MORE money for the tutor support and get your cert that way.

I just finished the test yesterday (I signed up for the no-tutor support option). It took me about 5 hours of work to complete and I had read most of the units over the past couple of weeks. You have to write up two lesson plans -- one that is based on a video that you watch and the other one you make up from scratch.

The test was fairly difficult but it's nothing you can't get through. They give you 24 hours to complete the test...Personally I wouldn't go with the tutor support option. You pay less money and it probably takes less time to just complete the test.

I think there is an option on the website to email the course managers. You have to contact them first and then they'll send you instructions on signing up and paying, etc. There might be a money order option but I'm not sure.

Those bastards! When I asked if there was any packet/course that didn't require an exam, they told me that every course required a final exam. I would have paid the extra money to be able to avoid the exam.

I'm currently taking the course but it's taking forever since I'm super busy at my job. Only on Lesson 3 Sad Not sure I'm gonna finish by the time my SMOE/GEPIK job starts.

A) It took just over 2 weeks to complete the course, and just over 4 hours to complete the test. I didn't opt for the tutor support.

B) The test consisted of everything from every unit! I don't know about now, but they sent a VCD with a lesson that you have to critique. Mine arrived broken but they sent me a link so I could access the video online--why they didn't do that to begin with, I don't know!

C) I had taught for more than 3 years prior to taking the course, but it made think more about what I do when I plan a lesson.

I did the program with a friend once upon a time. I have to say the extra money for the tutor is not really worth it, since the support was not that good. Many of the questions we asked were not really answered satisfactorily, BUT in the end I got through it relatively easy. I is not an online, but email correspondence course, which some people might find not as seamless. The problem we had was that they would not send out more than one or two units of instruction at a time, so we were constantly waiting for email replies so we could keep up the pace. All in all the course took three weeks to complete because of the email delays.

I'm taking the course right now, I did tutor support ONLY because I get Teaching Business English for free...the tutor support is BULLSHIT.

I should have just done the test, and then got the certificate for the pay raise.

Anyway, I'm learning how to be a more effective teacher which is good. It's just a pretty stupid course. My gf who has her Masters in teaching told me the questions they are asking are pretty much b.s. I find it frustrating at times, I don't know what they want or expect.

I'm on Unit 15....

So if anyone still has their units lying around and wants to hook me up Wink

Or if you need Units 1-15...
