Just a couple of questions;are there any branches of Aussie banks in Taegu?
Is there anywhere I can buy vegemite or do I have to bring it with me?
I am a male 6' 5'' and wear size 13 Australian shoes can I buy clothes and shoes in Taegu or do I need to buy them in Oz?
Do I need to buy adaptors for electrical appliances?
Sure there are more questions but thesewill do for a start,Thanks |

Get yourself a keycard with the cirrus thing on it if ya don't have a credit card - some atms take them
no vegemite here - bring some for me too
maybe get the clothes in itaewan but i don't think you'll see em in daegu
not sure about the adaptors though |

Ten years ago I could have invited you to visit Koje reached from Taegu via Pusan, and try the local kimchi.
But now you officially would come to Geoje from Daegu via Busan and eat gimchi! |

Hiya JRP,
Nope, no Aussie banks in Taegu (Daegu), either bring cash or a credit card, I have the cirrus type and was able to get cash out at the KB banks.
Haha, nope, no vegemite.
If you shop around by the military bases you might be able to find clothes your size.
Adapters may be a problem, if you can find one in Oz bring it, not sure if you can get them in Korea, I gave up looking pretty quick.
You sound like a big unit, do you play rugby? If you're keen to play or support there is the Daegu rugby club which is currently comprised of expats and army guys. Good bunch of guys and a great way to meet other foreigners when ya first arrive.

No aussie banks...the cirrus idea is good...there are plenty of english speaking/reading ATMs.
FORGET finding shoes your size anywhere outside seoul...I where size 10 1/2 and have trouble finding shoes...Bring them with you.
I think I saw some vegemite at Walmart...but I don't eat the stuff so I could be wrong. Best to bring some with you and have someone prepared to send you some. I'm american, so I have only ever seen vegemite in glass jars...if they have it in plastic or tube form...try to have it mailed to you like that. Forgive my ignorance if not.
You can have clothes tailored for you in Taegu and if you can get on the US bases then you can get some big sized clothes otherwise you need to go to Seoul (itaewon) or Pusan (texas/russia street).
Send me a message when you get here if you need anything else in Daegu. Been here 4 years. |

I'm size 12 and I have no problem finding many styles of shoes that fit in Busan on Texas street and in some Korean department stores in the Samyeon neighbourhood (but the Russian area of the port city is cheaper).
Busan is less than two hours from Daegu too.
Bring running shoes and boots though, the local selection is more the dress shoes, casual loafers, doc martens and slip ons.
I even find my size here on the island, though Korean styles tend more to the ugly and uncomfortable for the ones in larger sizes. |

Thanks everyone for the advice and I will be contacting the Rugby Club soon as I get settled.I am an Australian citizen but a kiwi by birth and early upbringing.I support the All Blacks of course and am definitely a Union fan from way back. |
