Hello, I am so happy to have gotten set up on the forums finally. So my situation is I have gone through all the steps to be employed in Korea. My girlfriend and I accepted a job in Seoul, through www.smilerecruiting.com/. My issue is we've tired e-mail our recruiter several times, and with no response when we wanted extra information. Has any one else dealt with this company before? And if so any background information on them? Probably just getting nervous since our contract read the 10th as are starting date and we have not received our light information or our visa.
apologizes in advance if this post doesn't belong on this forum section. |

A significant portion of the working public has had Sat-Wed off (with the exception of Tuesday) for Chuseok. Chances are it's just the holiday season.
Could also be that they have given the job to someone else. Until you get your Visa, nothing is set in stone.
Give them until the end of the week, then move on. |

What above poster said is true.
Also, you should always work with at least 2 or 3 recruiters so that you can compare and chose the best job offer. |

Recruiters do not work for you. So use any all to get a job. Have you also considered spending some money with a Skype or an international phone card and tried calling. Sometimes a phone call can get them moving. Just have to be careful of time zones.
If you have any questions about the contract consider posting it in the Contract review thread stickied up above. Do not post the contract as a new message. If you have any other questions do post again (just add here in this thread). But PLEASE, lurk and read some more the many threads and comments here.
Good Luck
Not to be a grammar Nazi as I am big war criminal myself, can you fix that tired mistake. You can edit your posts if you need to. I just ask, as it is driving me a little nuts. |

The statement above affirming the truthiness of my original message is also true. |

I'm not going to defend your recruiter because some of them do play games and disappear and reappear at will. But the communication chain can take a lot of time, at times, because of waiting for a school to make a decision or waiting on paperwork from immigration. Also, remember time differences and the fact that some schools and recruiters are considering different applicants at the same time. It can be a juggling act.
Oh, and anyone who says that recruiters don't work for you is technically correct but if you can find an honest recruiter then they will be on your side as much as possible. An honest recruiter can do some big things for teachers and schools but, alas, they too eventually get burned by the rotten apples in this industry. |

I would definitely recommend getting some credits on Skype for international calling. To Korea it is the least expensive rate and my $5 has lasted me a while. Give them a call during business hours and ask what's what. |

I wouldn't do business with a recruiter who didn't have access to a computer. You shouldn't need to pay anyone.
Computer to computer is free. |

Most recruiters have computers, but.... are not always in front of it. Thing is emails can be ignored. A phone call to their handphone can not be ignored easily. Plus if a job looks good, it is sometimes worth the effort to spend to spend a few bucks to make a couple of phone calls. |
