I usually leave the country over Chuseok, but this year I'm planning on doing a cycling trip around Gangwondo and Gyeongsangbukdo. As I'll mainly be passing through small towns and cities, I'm wondering if the cheap hotels (30-40,000won a night) are usually open over the holidays, and whether or not they're booked up. I just don't want to be arriving in a little city after cycling all day and then not being able to find something that's open with rooms available.
So, have any of you guys traveled to small cities over Chuseok, and if so, how was the hotel situation?

Not much closes on Chuseok nomatter what my wife tries to tell me. Actually, Chuseok is wonderful time to get out and see Korea because many things are actually less busy on the holiday. Korean's will be too busy with their families to travel around to the major tourist sites.
I went to Jirsan a fews years and had to give the family some money for their minbak during their Chuseok dinner. They didn't care, they were happy for the business. It was a great hike that wasn't too crowded. |
