JLS, when they were a privately owned company, used to be one of the best kept secrets amongst expat teachers. Good salaries and hours. After they became a traded stock exchange company in Korea, they've become more like all the other major academies.

I worked for them when they were changing over to the more "corporate" and "shareholder" mentality vs. the founder's original vision and it was still a decent job. Like all chains, conditions vary by branch and supervisors. I haven't heard anything about the Suwon branch.

It's probably no better or worse than most academies in general these days.

I work for JLS now, though not in Suwon. I liked the job when I first started but it has slowly been getting worse. The perks of JLS at the beginning are slowly being taken away. For example, we had a decent number of breaks and about 24 classes per week. Now they've changed the system so that we have to mentor kids, teach debate, interview students etc on our breaks.

The books can be a bit dry and definitely get annoying after the 4th time teaching about ball point pens in a week. The idea is that the kids should be working in groups to practise discussiion and presentations but it doesn't always work that well.

Good things about JLS: pay on time, 700k for housing, materials are prepared, pension, health etc
