When I got hired by my univ in the spring of 2011 I had to take a physical like for an E2 visa over at Soonchunhyang Univ hospital, nothing big only thing to come out was my high cholesterol which my regular dr knew.

Now my school wants me to go to their clinic for a complete battery of tests including an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I asked my regular dr who watches my chol, bp and orthopedic problems since I'm a runner about this and his reaction was thats bs, those are invaisive procedures and are not needed unless some reason is indicated. In fact my dr just gave me a clean bill of health to train for a marathon

any suggestion on how to avoid it? The idea of tubes snaking down my gut and up my ass when its not needed disturbs me

Maybe it has something to do with age? It does seem like a lot to require out of the blue. Maybe a Korean prof was just diagnosed with something?

These are over the top in my book. I'll grudgingly give blood, pee, sperm, crap etc, but as far as having things stuck down my throat or up my ass....you're right...that's pretty invasive, and to the best of my knowledge not any kind of legal requirement for visas.
Why are they claiming they require this??

WHAT A TROLL!!! Actually you may not be, but I feel the need to say that since all you ever seem to do is call people out. I'm just so used to seeing posts from you with "troll" in the message, I was suprised to see anything more.

I also realize that my comment provides no real value and is basically worthless in relation to your thread, but then again most of your "troll" comments are worthless as well, so I dont feel too bad.

Good luck on your colonoscopy, troll!

Sometimes schools do this for the "benefit" of the employees- my school also had a "free health check" which I was encouraged to take advantage of. I didn't, because it was the middle of the year and no one could give a satisfying reason other than it was a free health check. Knowing how medical privacy is non-existent in several parts of Korea, I declined and got renewed for two more contracts.

At public schools in my area, all teachers are required to have a medical biannually. At minimum, we have to get the usual light onceover, or we have the option of the full meal deal, including the procedures you mentioned. Thats subsidized by the school, so its cheap, so a lot of teachers do it.

Maybe your school has a similar policy.
