I'm looking for a dermatologist who speaks English in or near Itaewon or Gangnam.

If anyone has a recommendation it would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Wings

I recommend the TengTeng Skin Clinic, which is located outside exit 2 of Sinsa Station, right on the corner.

When you walk out, there's a bar called 'Phantom' and the building is to the left of that (the clinic is on the 10th floor). It's easy to find and easy to make an appointment.

I was just there on Saturday and there were three other foreigners in the waiting room; I've seen foreigners there every time. The doctor goes by the name of Julius Jon. I'm not sure what his Korean name is, but he's board certified in Korea and in the U.S., and his English is perfect. He's also really nice and easy to talk to.

I had some treatments done at a clinic in Suwon that made my skin worse than before. Since I started seeing him, it's definitely improved.

I don't know what your concerns are, but I had mild adult acne for years, which has since subsided for the most part. Unfortunately, I'm now dealing with rosacea.

My main concerns are broken capillaries/thread veins, surface scarring (some from my acne, but mostly from the harsh treatments I had done last year in Suwon), and generally uneven skin tone.

At first, he recommened Ellipse laser treatments. Unfortunately, these treatments are expensive (about 600,000 won each), and they didn't do much for me.

I fully believe he wasn't 'pushing' those treatments on me because they're more expensive and would therefore bring in more money. I think he genuinely believed they would help.

After having a few done, I wasn't happy with the results. They might be great for other people, but not so much for me. They didn't cause any added damage; they just didn't bring about the dramatic results I was hoping for, considering the price.

Since then, we've moved to Fraxel, which is less expensive (120,000 won per treatment). I had the first one done on Saturday and can already tell it's working better than the Ellipse. I'm looking forward to having a few more done in the coming months.

He also offers topical solutions and prescribes medications; some topical solutions can be purchased from him directly, and there's a pharmacy on the first floor for anything else.

There's a website (http://www.tengteng.com/english/d_ipl.html) and a fb page (https://www.facebook.com/#!/TengTengSkinClinic) you can check out.

Hope that helps!

Both the docs I've seen spoke English, at last enough to say 'don't scratch it' or 'take twice a day'.

I can second TengTeng in sinsa. I've been going there for about 8 months. I had moderate acne as a teen which was only mildly improved by using ProActiv and Murad. Dr. Jon put me on a very low dose of generic accutane and I also do monthly chemical peels. I get compliments on my skin alot now which is awesome. He's not very pushy either. I asked him about more permanent procedures and he recommended fraxel which is pretty expensive but he didnt push it on me at all. He just gave me a pamphlet and told me to think about it and never mentioned it again. I would definitely recommend just going in for a consultation.
