So I am considering going to Gunsan and was wondering if anyone had lived there before ?

I read a few posts that were 3 years old which kind of says its a terrible place / nothing to do etc... At the moment I live about 30 minutes from Busan in a smaller place than Gunsan so I am expecting it to be ok in comparison.
Of course here I have Busan close by which is cool but in Gunsan I suppose I will have Jeonju Smile

Anyway, any feedback is appreciated !!

Bland and blah.
The areas near Busan (even the smaller cities) just seemed so much better for me than Gunsan.
Never been to Jeonju but heard it was ok.

Really not as bad as people make it out to be. Lived in Gunsan from 2004-2007. Not a small city by any means. Wolmyoung for hiking, Eunpa for cherry blossoms, lots of culture around the harbor. A pretty tight knit foreign community and several hotspots for nightlife. Some great restaurants as well (Olivetto still there?). They were building a new theatre when I left think they have two now.

Jeonju is a stones throw away. When I first arrived (2005) it was essential. Now... not so much.

Things I did not like about Gunsan:
-the yellow sands are quite severe at times.
-Military planes 24-7
-foreign community felt a tad incestuous

Work wise, there is a place or two that should be avoided. Check your PM.

I've been here a few years so if you send me a PM I can give you the info I have on places to avoid working that I've heard from others. The city isn't too bad, certainly not great. I guess it depends on the person. If you can make the best of the situation it is a decent place. Keep in mind it has a military base and that means lots of soldiers out on the weekends if you are into the bar scene.
