In the course of waiting for my pension to be deposited, I've noticed that after I log in into my account I see a blinking alert but I can't read it as the warning is in Hangul. This is usually a "account transactions" button but now it's a blinking gif.

When I go to click on it I get the following also in Hangul so I can't respond in any meaningful way.

I'm currently traveling and the internet connections are pretty hit or miss and the time zone difference will make it difficult to call the bank during Korean banking hours.

Unfortunately, I cannot find any email contacts for KEB either.

If anyone can translate either picture a bit to tell me if something is wrong with my account or knows of a way to email KEB I'd be grateful.

Right now I'm batting zero it seems.

Well, I use a combination of online translators, online dictionaries, and what I know about grammar to translate.

A screenshot won't help me. If you want you can email [email protected]

Copy and paste the text.

On a side note, you shouldn't need any emails to check your balance on a bank account.

Did you get it set up so you can send funds to your account back home? You should have been asked to supply a name and password. The emails are just updates.

Without any knowledge of your banking situation or knowing what you clicked on to see this message, it's a bit hard to know exactly what's going on. That said, the pop up alert box states "You are not eligible to exchange your MS card" (or literally, "You are not a target for exchanging MS card").

After a bit of research, MS card means "magnetic strip card" and is the predecessor to the IC card (the one with the gold chip) that most banks now issue. This is just my assumption, but I'm guessing that the flashing red text is suggesting that customers should exchange their MS cards. Building on that assumption, I'd guess that you either don't have the old style card, or are not currently being targeted by the bank to update. Hopefully you'll know whether or not this applies to you.

Doesn't sound like something to worry about, IMO.

Thanks to everyone for responding, I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately, mere hours after posting I came down with food poisoning bad enough to require antibiotics and not much more than bed rest. I 'll look over the posts and respond back.

Again, thanks everyone.

All MS(magnetic strip) bank card in country must be replaced with IC cards (the ones with exposed metal circuits), and this is a mandatory transition per gov. regulation. In fact, the transition was supposed to come in force last March, by restricting the use of old cards at ATMs, but then there was a widespread confusion and subsequent uproar among the general public, as insufficient number of replacement cards had been issued up to this point. Hence the mandatory transition is now pushed back further to 2014.

That blinking alert in red is 'Check whether I have MS cards (that must be replaced)' and the pop-up is 'You do not possess MS card that shall be replaced', both of which mean you're in the clear.

Jake_Kim,

Thanks for taking the time to translate that for me and responding to my post. I really appreciate it. If I were still in-country I'd just have asked a co-worker about it but no Hangul speaking folks where I am at the moment.
