Hey Guys, I have searched everywhere and spoke with many people and can't seem to find a very straight forward answer anywhere. I heard that Americans receive a tax refund due to a treaty between our countries. Basically my boyfriend and I (are Americans) working at a private hagwon, normal situation/pay, leaving the end of Oct (this month). Are we able to collect this tax refund? How do we go about doing it? When do we receive it?
I want to be fully informed before talking to my director about anything because I'm sure she will try to withhold any penny she can.
We live in the Busan area.
Any help is greatly appreciated all i can find is info for public school or filing taxes at home in America!! |

Just go to the tax office. If you have pay stubs take them with you. If your school has been honest, they'll have your tax info filed on their system. Sometimes schools file for the tax refund and get your money. If that is the case, your school has your money. You ask for a print out of how much you should get and give it to your boss and ask for your money back. If your school hasn't collected it, then you give your bank info to the tax office and they'll deposit it into your account (IF your school actually does submit your tax money to the tax office each month).
If your school hasn't given the tax office any of your tax money (illegal!) then make sure you've got your pay stubs. The tax office will call your school and tell them what to do. |
