I am currently living in Taipei but plan to return to Korea for work in March. Who has gotten a CBC whilst living outside the US? How was the process? |

You will have to rely on FEDEX for mailing applications back and forth. Also this will entail having a FEDEX account so documents can be mailed back to you by FEDEX. The account is the first thing you have to set up. For some foriegn countries you may have to set the account up online, so that should be the first thing you do.
You have to download the Criminal Background Check page from the FBI website. This is it here:
http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/submitting-an-identification-record-request-to-the-fbi
You have to send the application yourself directly, you cannot use a channeler. Korean immigration will not accept a background check from a channeler.
The CBC has to have the FBI stamp on it. To obtain your CBC with an FBI stamp you have to include a letter along with the application stating you want the FBI stamp and signature on your CBC. Make sure that you include you FEDEX account number on the application, otherwise it might take forever to come back to you.
Once you get your CBC you must have it apostilled by The U.S. Dept. of State. To do this dowload the Office of Authentications apostille application form here:
http://www.state.gov/m/a/auth/c53226.htm
Fill out the form along with the correct payment and your FEDEX account number (to have it returned by FEDEX) and send the form and your CBC off to the specified address by FEDEX and within 2 weeks you should get your Apostilled CBC back. |
