Hi,
I'm currently finishing my 2nd contract with Epik. I plan to return home in Feb when it finishes.
The thing I've recently had some problems with my school. I changed schools after my 1st year (not by choice due to the quota of students needed to sustain 2 FT's being increased). I got on well with the staff in my 1st school.
My 2nd school hasn't gone so well and (without going into the details) I received an official written warning.
I do not intend to return to Korea soon, but don't have much of a plan going back home, so who knows?
If I apply for a hogwan job in the future ( say in 6 months or a year) will this come against me (my MOE knows about it of course)? I'm assuming that it will but I've learned that it's Korea so nothing would surprise me.
What do you think? Any past similar situations? |

You state you are finishing your contract. That is probably important if you want another EPIK job, and a hagwon will never care if you are willing to do whatever they want. I wouldn't worry about it. |

Yes, it definitely rules out Epik, I'm thinkin if I list my 2 years experience with Epik they would do some sort of check. |

If you say you did 2 years, they might check, but what are the chances they say, "Oh yea, that fred zepplin character came and worked 2 years. We had problems with him but we didn't do anything about it."
The first point is that whoever looks up your record will see you did 2 years. There won't be a red flag unless you make it an issue. If it showed you worked 1.5 years, then maybe that would be enough to draw attention. However, do you think they will look into every person that much? That's a lot of work, and considering they are using CBC's to justify hiring over qualifications I doubt you will have problems.
The second point is that it doesn't rule out EPIK. If you worked 2 full years, then I don't see why you shouldn't be considered again later. If you quit all of a sudden, then perhaps. Depends how much they want a full year.
If you do 2 full years, I don't see why it would rule you out. Apparently, they aren't doing anything. |

It's unfortunate when these things happen where one PS you were great and another PS you are treated like a dirt bag.
OP, it seems there is no perfect answer for your situation. Do whatever it takes to finish your contract and get your docs together. |

Friend, the school's not going to go to the trouble of issuing you a written warning unless they fully intend to continue issuing you written warnings. You say you're finishing your contract in February. That's a few months away and there's still plenty of time for them to pile those warnings on. Be prudent and prepare yourself for an earlier "finish" to the contract. |

+1!
There may be trouble ahead for you......
If I were you (assuming you want to finish your contract) i'd be SUPER squeeky clean from now on........
btw - what was the warning for?
It must have been for something quite big!
did they happen to say 'ok let's put this in the past' |

Get your certificate of employment before you leave.
Chances are, unless you are applying for EPIK again in the future, that in a year or two, no-one at your current school will even remember you much less be able to give a reference (public schools rotate 20% of their staff annually).
The certificate of employment simply states your name and ID (ARC/passport), start date, end date and job description (proof that you worked in Korea), school name, address, admin signature and stamp. They are required by law (labor standards act) to give it to you when asked.
A year or two from now, problem solved.

Also be fully prepared for the grilling you'll get when you ask for that certificate of employment. "Why do you need that? We can't believe you don't love working at this school." Get as much stuff ready as you can now so that you will be able to move on well before the scheduled end of your contract. |

Nah. I ask for and get COE in Korean/English every year at my PS. Never had anyone raise question as to why. They just need to know for what purpose it will be used for so I always tell them that it's for my personal record.
You have to pay for it though. |
