Hey, I just noticed on the State Department website that between October 16-19 that they will have your documents apostilled within 72 hours. I believe its only for drop off and pick up, as in you have to go do it yourself (not by mail). Of course, this only applies to people who are conveniently located next to the DC area who can drive here and do it. Just thought I'd give you all a heads-up because I've heard that the turn around time is roughly 4-6 weeks.
Also, I called the number on the site, and the automated response told me beginning September 17th that there would be a 72 hour turnaround, so maybe it's a permanent thing now?

The state department is the laziest arm of the government. Look what they did to four Americans abroad in Libya, they requested something (I think additional security) and the state department took their good 'ole time until they got killed.

Have you seen the authentications office in DC, newb? It's a tiny office and they've nothing to do with Libya. They're likely getting slammed with requests. It's not surprising if you can't walk in and out the same day anymore.

But they just love to take their sweet little time stamping their little seal on a piece of paper (1 day), stuffing into envelope (2 or 3 days), placing it in the outbox (3-4 days), mailing it off (1-2 weeks),....... job security I guess.
