|
|
I do a lot of traveling and hiking and have always used a point-and-shoot camera (currently a Canon PowerShot SX130IS). However, recently I've been considering buying a digital SLR, and am trying to decide what exactly to get. I'm doing some research online, but that tends to be North American or European focused so I'd appreciate some advice on models available in Korea.
I mainly take pictures of scenery (mountains, waterfalls, etc.) and wildlife (animals, birds, insects). I almost never take pictures of people. I also don't want to end up hauling a big, bulky, heavy bag of equipment every time I go hiking, so I think ideally I would only want 2 lenses. I'd prefer to get a second-hand camera if I can find a decent deal, but otherwise I'd be looking at buying something new. I'd like to get something that's relatively straightforward to use and fairly intuitive. I don't need a million different options that I'll never use.
As I mentioned earlier, I've just started doing some research online, but I'd still appreciate any advice any of you can offer. And how do prices compare here with Canada? Would I be better off picking one up next time I go back to Vancouver?
Thank you |

You could consider buying mine; I've been trying to sell it because I had a misunderstanding with the store on return policy when I bought it a few weeks ago.
I got an Sony Nex-7. It's a good camera, in fact many consider the best mirrorless DSLR available. These are actually cheaper in Korea than what they are in the US, and likely Canada. But maybe out of your price range. New you are looking at about 1,200,000 for the body. I would sell for 1,100,000. Main reason I'm selling is due to financial reasons.
I'm an Ivy League grad and university professor, so you'll have absolutely have no problems doing business with me if you interested. |

I would really avoid getting a camera here if possible. It'll be much cheaper in the states if you are from there.
I would recommend getting either a Canon or Nikon as they are the "big dogs" and will be easier to get equipment and to resell in the future.
I currently use the Canon T3i but I would highly recommend the Nikon D40 as it is cheap, light, and great to learn on. Second hand, I would no pay over $500 for it (You can find them for $300-400).
I would just start with the kit lens and see if you need more zoom or if you want a wider pic or what not. |

The Canon I'm selling (link above) is 350,000 won without the bag, if you are interested. Comes with the really efficient 18-55mm kit lens. |

Any DSLR will be worlds above what you're used to in regular point and shoot cameras. Go for an entry level Canon or Nikon with both the kit lens at a 50mm 1.8. And anything used from the past few years would be fine and take far superior photos to any modern point and shoot. |
