Is this possible/done?

Should I be expecting to only pay half of the usual housing deposit?

Any help appreciated

It's possible, but not common. You'll probably end up paying the same deposit amount.

If you mean the chonsye (I know my spelling is bad) deposit, it may possibly even be higher for a short term rental, since the landlord will have less time to gather interest on the money.

I found a tiny cube for a friend last year in Gangnam. It was $500/ month and no deposit (I think they just wanted $500 deposit) which is very rare for KR.

You're probably looking at a Goshiwon for anything shorter than a year. Otherwise you risk having the landlord hang onto your deposit and keep deducting rent after you move out. Very few will actually let you sign for six months.

Thanks for the tips! I think I'll stay put until this contract is up in that case
