Hello eslcafe. It's been a while.
My husband and I are wanting to come back to Korea, and I'm a little confused on what to do about my husband's criminal background check.
He's American, but has been living out of the US since November 2009. He's a permanent resident of Canada now (has been since 2009), and we've been living in Canada since we left Korea in February.
Would he still be required to get an FBI check, or would a Canadian background check be accepted? I have a feeling he needs the FBI check, but just wanted some confirmation before we started the process. |

| US citizen with US passport? Then he'll need FBI check. |

| Yes I agree, he would need an FBI check. A friend of mine was in the exact same situation except reversed (she was a Canadian living in the USA with a green card for 20 years). She needed a Canadian crim check even though she only lived in Canada until the age of 4. |

| You only need a background check from the country your passport is from. My husband is Mexican and we lived there before coming here, I only needed to show a background check from Canada, where I haven't lived in a long long time. Very silly. |
