I had a job contract in hand and took a few days asking questions before making my decision. I decided I would sign, however, I come to find out that the school already hired someone else during that time. The school cited that my recruiter should have told me earlier, and my recruiter cited that the school was uncomfortable with my questions.
Is this common? I'm pretty disappointed and I don't want this to happen again.
Did I wait too long to decide?
Is it rude to ask too many questions?
Should I be looking for a new recruiter? If so does anyone have any advice on good private school recruiters? |

You should always use as many recruiters as you can. Use any and all. It's the job that is important, not the recruiter. Think about it like this: if you were shopping for a car, would you be loyal to one salesperson or would you look for the best car from all of the cars available? |

If a school is uncomfortable with questions then I would say you dodged a bullet. What kind of things were you asking? One of the main reasons I got my current job is because I asked lots of questions and they liked it.
And yes, go through as many different recruiters as possible. I personally work in public schools, so I don't have many recruiters for hagwons. But if you email a ton of them then I am sure you'll find some you work well with. |

| It's very common to knock back indecisive applicants even if they haven't actually signed somebody else. |

| Thanks for advice. I was just asking basic questions regarding the contract. How the health insurance worked, what they meant by this or that, nothing I thought to be offensive or a waste of time. Just trying to make it clear I am picking a good place to work, which seems scary after reading so many horror stories on the forums |

| Just take your time and do your homework before coming here. And as other posters have said, use as many recruiters to shop around. |

You're waiting showed a lack of interest and they moved on to another person. I don't blame them unless your qualifications and rate of pay make you an exceptional candidate in which case they missed out.
If you were the school what would you do? I would interview as many candidates as possible and decide who was the best fit / most eager to work.
If you were the recruiter what would you do? I would offer the school as many candidates in as short a time frame as possible. |

Free market. Apparently there are plenty of warm western bodies to go around. Back in the mid-90's they'd plead with you and offer you all kinds of goodies. That window of opportunity has been long gone for years now.
If I weren't married to a Korean and had my own apartment with plenty of networks, I wouldn't teach in Korea if my life depended on it. |

Looky looky for a new school, not a new recruiter. They aren't you're mother and father. You don't have one of each. You can have many.
How many people are going to ask about a new recruiter? |
