I get such a kick out of being a matchmaker with my students. Many of them are so shy to talk to members of the opposite sex that they are interested in so that is where I step in and they are so thankful for my help.
It is so hilarious.
The best part is introducing the really weirds with like-minded people as themselves. Some are so shy that they want me to come along so what I do is show up for a few minutes and then slip out the back door hitting the ground running laughing hysterically as I bolt towards cover.
Anybody else get involved with matchmaking and enjoy it as much as I do? |

You exceeded the unwritten awesomeness threshold and rendered Dave's readers speechless...
Maybe you should be getting paid a booking club fee as well as teacher salary? |

I was a bit of a matchmaker when I worked at a hagwon years ago...only with university students, though. I wouldn't want to encourage married people to do something they shouldn't.
Nowadays, I try to help shy students make new friends. In fact, one of the added benefits of doing pair work and group projects is so I can sit the ones who sit alone together (either they are shy or they are from a different department). It doesn't always work out as planned, but it's usually successful. For example, this semester I have had two very shy students who became good friends and always sit together. |

Not my students. For them, sitting boy-girl-boy is a punishment. Sometimes they cry just thinking about it. If that happens I make the cryer sit alone. |

How old are your students? I teach middle schoolers and one time I asked some completely unrelated question about tornadoes or something and the girl goes "Yes I have a boyfriend" and I was like ok cool anyways tornadoes... |

I don't do it directly... I just write the internet address for "Adult Friend Finder" on the board, and the adult free talking class just seems to take it from there. |
