In 2005 I took a job with a private (non-franchised) hagwan in Daegu. The owner was named Choi and used a Hispanic first name in all his advertising. He was one of the first people involved in the Minjok boarding school in Gangwan-do but was no longer associated with them in 2005.
That individual hired me knowing the position was only a fill in position between the end of one teacher's contract and the month before the new hire was to arrive. My arrival was with no visa and 4 days before my visa was to expire, and coincidentally the day before a 4 day holiday?, he told me that Immigration had refused my visa because they said I had done a runner before when I had never done such a thing. It was merely an excuse to recover his plane fare and avoid paying me. At the end of it all I PAID almost a thousand dollars for the "privilege" of working for him.
I'm wondering if anyone knows the name of that man and that of his hagwan and if it is still in operation or not? I also hope this is in the correct forum because I'm not sure if this is job related, living in ROK related or just off-topic.
The e-mail I used to sign up in the Korea forum has been deleted & I will get no notice if there is a reply so I would appreciate replies to: [email protected] Thanks |
