|
|
Hello,
I finally finished filling out applications and fingerprinting for the FBI Criminal Background Check. Just to make sure I don't have any loose ends, I want to run it with the veterans on the board, thank you and please let me know if I am missing anything, advice is always welcome.
What I have ready to send:
1. Filled out application.
2. Credit Card Payment Form.
3. 5 sheets of fingerprints on card stock paper.
Now for the questions:
1. Where and how should I state that I need the FBI Criminal Background Check to be "authenticated?" Is that the correct term/word?
2. The authentication is a seal correct? Is this the same as a notarization? If not, what is a notarization and how do I do it?
3. Is notarization mandatory for the FBI Background Check to be apostilled?
4. I am reading a lot of people send in a return envelope along with their application and fingerprints, is this true?
So many questions, but I want to make sure I don't fall in any holes, thank you! |

I just received my FBI background check back the other day so I will answer as best as I can as I know sometimes helpful comments take a while here lol.
I requested in multiple areas to have the raised seal (needed for apostille) and my copies did not have them. Instead it is just a stamp that looks scanned on the background check. I immediately called the FBI customer service and they said that it will still get apostilled no problem.
5 sheets of fingerprints? I guess 2 would make sense just in case one cant be verified for some reason. I got my mine professionally done and one was suffice.
Questions
1. Refer to above. I would still just write it on the app somewhere and on a separate sheet of paper just in case.
2. The seal is raised. Again, you may just receive a scanned stamp?
3. I assume the notarization is the stamp and yes it is needed.
4. Yes, I just bought another envelope and just addressed it to myself. Just remember it takes 1 -2 months to get it back so its best to add tracking and confirmation both ways so you know exactly what is going on. |

Just to reconfirm for any future concerns. The FBI NO LONGER supplies the raised seal to all background checks. The stamp is suffice for the apostille. |

Your county/district police station can usually do the fingerprints. In Korea or in your home country. |

I just wanted to double check a few things about the fingerprinting...
I can go to the FBI website and print the fingerprint form on regular A4 paper to get my fingerprints??? I know back in the States, the police station had official fingerprint cards to get the fingerprints done. It seems a bit strange to have them done on a regular sheet of A4 paper.
Also, is there a police station that did the fingerprints well? I know that it's best to get the prints done by a "fingerprint technician", and was wondering if all of them were the same, or maybe some better than others.
TIA! |

You don't go to the local police station ("police box") for the fingerprinting. You go to the main station for your dong. In the dong cop shop will be the CSI section. They are fingerprint technicians and will do the fingerprinting for you. This service is free. And, yes, the forms printed on regular A4 paper suffice.
If you happen to be in Busan, go to the Busan Dong Police Station down the street from Exit 7 of Busanjin Subway Station. The CSI section there has blank FBI fingerprint forms (on regular A4 paper) they keep ready for foreigners. I've gone there for the last three sets of fingerprints I needed in Korea. The technician will fold the paper over a ruler while he rolls your fingers, but that is okay; the FBI still accepts the form. You have to inform the guard at the gate what your business is and also check in at the front desk. If you've never been inside the station before, the duty officer will escort you to the correct office. |
