I've been at a hagwon for about 4 months now. I know it isn't a shady place but I got spoken too about my kindie classes. Apparently parents are complaining their kids come home and, when asked about what they've learned in class, say "I don't know." I know that they know because I test them at the end of every week and ask questions during class. I do a ton of repetitive drills and lots of sentences. I do have a larger class (14 kids, no real help from my Korean teachers) and have had management problems, but the majority seem to be able to respond.
I'm kind of scared that I could lose my job if enough parents complain.. So two questions.
How do you teach your kindie classes?
If you have been fired from a hagwon, how long of a notice did they give you before letting you go? (paranoid, but figured I'd ask. I really don't think I'm getting the boot that fast.) |

I feel sorry for you for not having any help from Korean staff.
For kindies, you don't focus on teaching them. You entertain 'em with masks and costumes. Also a lot of coloring. That's how they learn.
4 months in? They can let you go at will without a notice. |

How could any kindergartener properly explain what they learned? They are too busy chasing and flinging snotballs at each other.
"Oh mom, it was one of those usual days. I was sitting down to write my outline draft on Nietzsche and Bobby took out a pencil and proceeded to stab Cindy in the butt with it. I was worried sick my fellow classmates might miss the animal lecture our teacher was about to present. Anyway, I digress, to answer your question, I learned "hop" for rabbit, "hare" for rabbit also I think, tortoise for turtle. Why do they have two words for the same animal? Then we heard about a story about a hare and a tortoise racing."
So, besides cooking this dinner which could have been just microwaved in 3 minutes, what did you do all day mommy dearest?" |

"How do you teach your kindie classes?" This is where you are going wrong. Be an edutainer NOT a teacher. |
