My co teacher has told me I qualify for 200.000 won worth of "welfare." What ever that means. I can not get a good answer to what items qualify. She tells me I can bring in receipts for medical, leisure, some clothing, and meals? I am very unclear about this. Have any other teachers had any experience with this?

That's bizarre, I've never heard anything like it. Is she pulling your leg? Very Happy

Not at all! Maybe "Welfare" is not the correct term after translation.

Sounds more like a tax break or expenses sort of deal. So if you spent some money for treats or traveling related to school, maybe you will qualify for a refund.

Are you public school?

Some schools have organized a teacher's welfare organization. The membership fees are rather low and there are some benefits. One such benefit is partial reimbursement for certain expenses. The qualifying items are laid out in the organization charter.

Personally, I'd just bite the bullet on the medical. It's bad enough that far too people in Korea grasp the concept of medical confidentiality without giving them more fodder.
