Good movie, stayed close to the book (as much as it could fit into 2hrs) and good actors. I especially liked Grard Depardieu as the cook. And even though they spell it out for you at the end, most Americans in the theater that didn't read the book STILL didn't get it. Sigh.

The only thing I would have changed is to give the ending more than just a telling - in other words I would have had the kid narrate the story as the scene plays out with the actors.

Overall, I give it an 8 out of 10.

As someone who read and loved (and understood the underlying themes of) the book, it was a good enough review for me. In other words, might watch it...won't feel gutted if I don't get round to it.
