Just wondering if the cops, inter-pol or whoever ever caught that scam artist pretending to be a casting director in Korea looking for extras for a movie on craigslist. I had three friends lose money on that deal. What's the latest?

He or she hasn't yet been caught, but some friends and I are actually working on a documentary about it right now, and we're looking for investors. PM me if you'd like to learn more about this great opportunity! Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this sure thing!

How do you lose money as an extra... unless he took their pay and ran.

Didn't he accept fees to help people break into the world of acting? That would be kind of like you paying someone to break into the exciting world of internet blogging. Don't laugh, though, that scam works for many different jobs like modeling and entertaining.

It was a classic employment scam. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employment_scams)

The scammer in question, Neil Gabourel, posted fake job ads offering work at winter camps (paying W2 million a week) and on movie sets. If you answered his ads, he sent you back an e-mail claiming they were interested in hiring you, but you had to pay him something like W20k for an informational packet + DVD or set pass. He sent a Shinhan account number and asked for a bank transfer.

I answered the ads, but ignored him once he asked for money. From what I saw on Craigslist for the week to come, a lot of people took the bait and were trying to get him busted. I'm also curious about what happened next.

WTF... having to pay for that?? Yeah, I'd toss that email pretty quick.

it's common here, happens everyday to Koreans.

the most common form is, they ask you to take headshots, but you must use this one photographer and only him! of course he charges an arm and leg, then they promise you they will keep you on file for future projects they hear about etc..
of course you never get a call!
