Hi

I'm going to Thailand over Christmas, and my usual go-to people for watching my cat are also going away. Does anyone know someone that can take him from December 22-January 1? He needs attention (lots of it), so I'm worried about leaving him in my apartment and just having a friend stop in to check on him. He'll come with all food and toys, and he uses the toilet, not a litter box. (I live in HBC/Itaewon.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Heather

You could try the South Korea Pet Sitting Network:

Good luck!

Post something on Facebook, either on your wall or in your city/town's community group. There WILL be people out there perfectly capable of looking after a kitty for a short while, whether you know them or not, there might just be people who love cats and/or are missing their own cat at home and would relish the chance to babysit one.

Thanks, I'll do that. Does anyone know someone who'd like to take care of him?

And unfortunately, since it's a 'push', he can't flush.

Maybe scout around for a small vet clinic. They may take care of it while you're gone, but it won't be cheap. Plus, no guarantee and how well it will be treated.
Once, I did find a clinic with the doc's own cat allowed to roam around and she offered to care for it, but it was a bit expensive. So, I asked an ex-gf to look after it while I was gone. She kept it on a leash locked in a small room the ENTIRE time. I was not happy.
Either way, it'll appreciate you that much more and happy to see you back.

I've also only heard bad things about the vet/animal hotels, and I can't do that to him. I guess if push comes to shove, I have a friend down in Gwangju that can watch him, but it's a rough 5 hour drive each way for the cat.

I live about 3 stops away... and would consider it. I've been thinking about getting a cat, so maybe a week's trial run might be a good start. Would have to pass it by the wife though, but if you can't find anything, shoot me a pm.

There you go. Sounds like a win-win situation, can't find anything better.

I travel away from my cat once or twice or year. Its far less traumatic for a cat to stay at home than get boarded somewhere. I've always managed to come up with someone to drop by to provide at least minimum care, ie look after her food & water & scoop the litter, & bonus maybe play with her a bit. Your cat needs less human input than you think it does.

I've hired friends, teaching colleagues, trustworthy teenage students, & even barmaids to cover for me in the past. Man won a visit per day is fair & they've been happy. Maybe my old cat wasnt thrilled but she has always dealt fine with this. I think she even expects it now from time to time, knowing I'll come home again.
