"Korean Groups Declare War on Internet Pornography"
http://www.koreabang.com/2012/stories/korean-groups-declare-war-on-internet-pornography.html
| Quote: |
| Recently, a coalition of civic groups have taken it upon themselves to individually monitor the Internet for porn sites and have now entered into an alliance with the government. If these groups get their way, you may lose your internet or phone service if they catch you looking at porn on them |
Some translated netizen comments:

Well, if you want to do something about [porn], you could start by taking a look at the ads on this [Nate] page, like: Do you want to learn a secret method that will drive your husband in his 40s to become sexually excited in just 5 minutes?? |
I don't know about Nate specifically, but some of the banner ads on the Korea Times website are very graphic.

This is going to set us back as a country. Has no one thought that if sexual education is not taught properly in school, the amount of sexual assaults will go up? If you want to block porn, block porn after properly teaching teens sex ed! |
Based on what the Koreans I've asked about their sex ed experience(s) told me, good point.

[Quoting the government official in the article] We appeal to all citizens to join us in this movement to wipe the Internet clean of pornographyjeezI hate people like this. |
I do too! |

And Koreans in their late 20s love the previous Roh Mu Hyeon administration that had lax interent policies towards online pornography. You can occasionally see comments like these on Daum Agora.
This is an organized online censorship directly administered by the current government. I think that makes it more of a problem. |

I wonder if any of the members are women? maybe I can volunteer to assist them in their efforts... especially in the interracial white-asian genre....

Numerous wars have been fought and millions of people have died..over thousands of years... so that we could get a shot at the hi score. |

| The dirty little secret and inconvenient truth (at least in the West) is that as porn has become readily accessible, rapes and sexual assaults have plummeted. |

And as the number of pirates in the world has decreased, the average temperature of the world has steadily increased. |

I think your suggestion presupposes that rape is about sexual gratification. It's not. It's about control - a crime of violence.
I'd ask you to cite your source. |

I don't intend to weigh in on either side of this debate, but it's not as if his claims are completely unorthodox: http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/everyday_economics/2006/10/how_the_web_prevents_rape.html. |
