I'm going to the UK for 2 weeks.

I only want to use my Iphone for apps/wireless internet. I specifically DONT want to use roaming.

Do I have to do anything to prevent getting charged?

It's easy. Go to settings and turn Airport Mode "ON" and then you're good Smile

Shouldn't you also turn off 'data roaming' or something?

Thx for the replies.

Called KT and they said it will switch to roaming automatically and apparently data roaming is switched off automatically, too.

There's no "airport" mode, but there is "airplane" mode - I think that's only for flying though.

It will switch to the local provider and by default data roaming is off. if you are on a wifi connection it won't charge you and you access all your apps etc no problem.

roaming charges for incoming and outgoing calls are expensive though, figure 1200 won/minute, text messages are close to that cost

airplane mode turns off all radios. that's it. cellular radios and wifi radios. it's not just for airplanes.

and cellular roaming does not cost anything. it's only if you make or receive calls or sms/mms messages.

most phones turn off data roaming by default or prompt you to turn it on/off manually.

so when you travel, just keep data roaming off unless you've arranged with KT to do the 10k/per day unlimited 3g data plan and you'll be fine for emergency calls.
